legislation to protect the national anthem as copyright for Amhrán na bhFiann is currently expired. The lack of strict copyright in place for the national anthem leaves this important state symbol exposed. Copyright for the anthem officially expired at the end of 2012 and Fine Gael gave a commitment at the time to act on the issue. However they have failed to deal with this so we are bringing forward legislation to protect Amhrán na bhFiann.
The recognition of Irish Sign Language (ISL) is a very important issue. This Act ensures equal rights for the deaf community and gives them easier access to services. Under the Good Friday Agreement, ISL was to be officially recognised by both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. The bill was signed into law by President Michael D. Higgins on the 24th of December 2017.
The intention of the bill is to reform the law on corporate manslaughter to ensure that undertakings or persons can held accountable when deaths of workers are caused by neglect of workplace health and safety whether it is through established bad practice or management.
