Senator Mark Daly at a meeting of the Committee of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Defence – 20th October 2016, with Minister for Foreign Affairs Charlie Flanagan.
Senator Daly has asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs for an update on how the government will be meeting the housing needs for the 4,000 refuges we promised to take in. Also there is the exclusion of Ireland’s neutrality in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s Statement of Strategy 2015-2017. Neutrality is a core principle of this state and not addressing it in this policy document is a huge mistake. The trial of Ibrahim Halawa is also an issue which needs to be continuously pushed in discussions in Europe.
