Foreign Affairs Committee schedule meeting to discuss Obama immigration overhaul plans

Barack Obama

The Foreign Affairs Committee will hold a special meeting to discuss the American President Barack Obama’s plan to overhaul the US immigration system.

Last month Obama announced a number of reliefs that will protect illegal immigrants from deportation.

There are an estimated 55,000 undocumented Irish people currently in the US.

Fianna Fáil’s spokesperson on the Diaspora, Senator Mark Daly, is calling on the Government to provide extra funding to Irish organisations throughout the US – to help the undocumented Irish who qualify under the terms of the scheme.

The meeting of the Oireachtas Foreign Affairs Committee will take place on the December 17.
