Senator Mark Daly Condemns Minister Reilly’s actions in using Attorney General’s advice to tell Leinster House how to run its affairs

In an unprecedented move, Minister James Reilly has for the first time in the History of the State, published the advice of the Attorney General and circulated to all Deputies in order to frustrate debate on a flawed EU law on organ donation.

It is not the Attorney General’s place to tell the Dail that debate on an issue is “redundant”.

Last week, Senator Daly secured the 20 signatures (1/3 of the House) necessary to recall the Seanad on the issue, which is to take place next week – Tuesday 20th of August.

So far, 36 Deputies have indicated that they are willing to sign a letter supporting a recall of Dail Eireann from recess to debate and annul the EU Law on Organ Donation and Transplantation that was signed by Minister James Reilly without debate in the Dail, Seanad or even the Oireachtas Health Committee last year.
