Senator Mark Daly Seanad Spokesperson for the Irish Overseas and Diaspora has welcomed the US Senate Vote on the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Bill.

The Senate voted 82-15 to move forward with the Bill.

Senator Daly commented “This is a hugely important vote and shows the real political will currently in the United States to reform their immigration system.

The Bill which contains provisions for a path to citizenship for the Undocumented in the United States, will now move forward in the Senate before going in front of Congress.

Senator Daly who has been holding meetings with Senators and Congressmen recently on Capitol Hill with the Irish Lobby of Immigration Reform, stressed the importance of this reform to the Irish “This is a real chance for the 50,000 Undocumented Irish currently in the United States to have a better life and become legalised. We all know people who are facing situations where they cannot come home and must live in the shadows in the United States. There are more than 2,000 people from my own county of Kerry, currently living Undocumented in the United States”.

Senator Daly has reaffirmed his commitment to this issue, “This is the most significant movement in Immigration Reform in years for the Undocumented Irish, and I will continue to work on their behalf along with the Irish Lobby for Immigration Reform”.
