Presentations to Secondary Schools on the Dangers of Drug and Alcohol Abuse with Addiction Counsellor Leona Cronin

Presentations to Secondary Schools on the Dangers of Drug and Alcohol Abuse with Addiction Counsellor Leona Cronin Over the last number of months Leona Cronin of the Kerry Addiction Counselling Service and Senator Mark Daly have visited secondary schools in Killarney, Castleisland and Kenmare to inform the students of the dangers of alcohol and drugs, in particular drugs previously sold in Head Shops. While Head Shops are no longer selling drugs on their premises, the drugs are still available from other sources. The purpose of going to the schools is to warn them of the consequences of using and abusing drugs and alcohol.

Prior to Head Shops being prevented from selling their drugs, some parents mistakenly believed that the ‘legal highs’ were safe. So much so that Senator Daly has met parents who bought a drug which was the same as cocaine from these Head Shops for their children in the false belief that it was safer.  Senator Daly hopes to complete the visits to the schools in Dingle, Caherciveen, Killorglin and Rathmore in the coming weeks.
